The Race

I really like how the Democrats are running this race for the presidency like a relay, passing off the front runner baton every couple weeks. Kerry still seems to have it, but now Mr Edwards is inching up.

So who gets to run the final sprint? Might not know for a while now my friends.

why do democrats always talk about tax cuts are only for the rich when the top 1% income bracket pays over 99% of the taxes? and do none of them know that the more money that those people have in bank accounts means more money that can be lent out for economic growth? and people bitch about only getting $200 in taxes back from the cut and Britany Spears gets $300,000 back, but the person getting $200 back only paid $300 in taxes when celebrities paid $75 million in taxes to begin with. it makes no since and then they call republicans stupid. at least republicans understand why 200 years of capitalism has put us exponetially further along then 5000 years of imperialism and communism.

WHAAAAT? Dude, dou have the least fucking clue what you're talking about? Many of those fortunate enough to be in a bracket where they might otherwise pay hefty taxes are also knoweldgeable enough regarding other options available to them that they wind up paying very little.

I'm not even necessarily talking about offshore accounts per se - though those are definitely used - but the wide variety of dodges, deferments, bypasses, investments, shelters, charities, and foundations legitimate or otherwise that the truly wealthy use as a matter of course to avoid taxation.

Since you seem unaware of these options, I can only conclude you've never personally had to prepare for such eventualities, and therefore your defense of the superrich is even more distasteful: toadying and currying favor from those more fortunate (or talented) than you, rather than advocating on behalf of your own interests.

Your bullshit rhetorical ploy of citing a statistic (that the top 1% pay 99% of taxes) that is patently false, does not help your argument at all. A very quick search on Google reveals that the personal income tax burden of the top 1% in 2001 was 33.9% [1]. The top 1% also own 40.1% of the country's wealth (more than the bottom 90% combined) [2], but their taxable income was only 17.5% of all income recorded [1]. Why? For the reasons Adam described...

And who said anything about being a Democrat, either? Run along back to the NSYNC fan board, now - I hear they're looking for you.
